The Sinulog depicts the embrace of Philippine natives to honor of Snr. Sto Nino (Baby Jesus) and the first arrival of Christianity.

The Dinagyang Festival also celerating the Snr. Sto Nino, has a more tribal element, to celebrate the arrival of Malay settlers in Panay, Ilo-ilo and the subsequent selling of the island to them by the Aboriginal people (Aeta's).

Lenora Cabili works with local artisans in the Philippines to employ indigenous, tribal motifs into her contemporary designs. She grew up in Mindanao and was a member of Bayanihan Philippine Dance Company before becoming a clothing technology graduate from the University of the Philippines.
